For the past fortnight I had been following the Australian Open religiously. I tracked intensively my favourite players' progress in the tournament. Some did well, some did not. I'm very happy Serena won the women's singles title. She defeated Dinara Safina (also one of my girls) 6-0 6-3. It was her fourth Australian Open title, winning the title in 2003, 2005, 2007. Call that superstition! It was also her TENTH Grand Slam title. That title also gave her back the No.1 position, with who would win the title the no.1 position would be hers to take. She also won the women's doubles title with her sister Venus. With these two titles she earned $1,528,135 and I know, that's hell of A LOT OF MONEY.
When Serena's game is on, you just don't want to mess with her.
Moving over to the men's side, I actually thought Andy Murray would win the title, but he lost in the fourth round to Spaniard Fernando Verdasco. Co-incidentally, these are the two players I featured in 'My 5 male tennis players to watch this season'. Fernando went all the way to the semi final, where he lost to Nadal in five thrilling sets.
As for the final, I actually thought that Roger Federer would win, but I knew I could not count Nadal out, because he's my favourite player! I screamed to delight when Federer had his forehand long and Nadal checked onto the ground, knowing that he has won the tournament. After the match, they had the prize giving ceremony, and Federer broke to tears, he could not hold it back. I know he wanted to win this title so badly to equal Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slams, but I guess pressure got him so badly. King Nadal defeated Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2. Federer will have to wait a little while though, Rafael Nadal is just the undisputed King of Clay. Maybe Wimbledon?Or US Open? We'll see in about 5 months time.
By now you guys should realise that Nadal can play on all surfaces, OK?
All hail King Nadal!

Rafael Nadal deserves to 'bite' his trophy.
Serena and her trophy.
She's in 7th heaven, for sure.
